24 weeks and 3 days - fear?

So it has come to my attention after having a complete and total meltdown last night, that there are people who do not understand my discussion of the issues I have had in my pregnancy as my fear of something going wrong and feel as though the negative has taken over the positive in my life.

I would like to believe that those who read my blog can understand my joy in this miracle, but apparently many of those I encounter in my life feel as though I am not taking this miracle as a miracle.

This baby is what I have wished for my whole life: what I sacrificed my body/mental status/financial security for, what I had a marriage end over the strain and stress of the infertility diagnosis (amongst a few other things), what I have cried on the bathroom floor more times than I can count, what I watched so many people have in their life without going through all I had, what I criticized myself as less of a woman for, and dealt with the ultimate possibilities that I would never be a mother.

This baby is our miracle, I am so grateful and thrilled that we are going to have our dream after 3 years of heartache and depression. We cannot wait to meet her and watch her grow up, cannot wait to see who she looks like, cannot wait to experience all her firsts with her, and cannot wait to spend days/nights just simply watching her grow up.

So I shall explain to the best of my ability the difference between my gratitude and my feelings of frustration.

In any of the preparation for this baby (and believe me there was as much as I could possibly get my hands on!), I read about the symptoms of pregnancy some women may experience. I however, seem to be one of those women who have nearly all on this list at approximately the same time and with great intensity. It seems like a sick joke: we worked so hard and went through hell to get pregnant - now, have every single painful/difficult/harsh pregnancy symptom possible and see if it was all worth it? That's how it feels for me, like running a marathon immediately upon completion of an Iron man competition.

My complaining (although, I am aware it has been potentially excessive in some people's opinions and I am going to work on that - not perfect but trying to do better) has not been for just the sake of complaining.

I am in pain every single second of the day - the type of pain that cannot be described as anything but almost beyond my pain tolerance.

The type of pain from sharp sciatic nerve irritation that puts my legs to sleep where I nearly lose my balance at the most inconvenient times (such as staircases, icy spots on roads, etc), the type of acid reflux pain that is the equivalent of fire (simply from drinking water) and takes my appetite away, morning sickness that had me throwing up 4-5 times a days for the first 14 weeks on a good day, up all night, sleeping on the bathroom floor in 15-20 minute increments between vomiting fits, to the point I lost nearly 15 pounds and left me weak from not being able to keep down food to provide me with energy, exhaustion that makes physically sitting up in bed more than my body would allow me to do.

Yet, through all of this, I am at school teaching - somdays feeling like I am the bottom of someone's shoes and have been stepped on or run over by a truck. Standing on my feet and moving around the building to do my job to the best of the ability. Going to graduate classes 2 nights a week so I can finish this before baby girl comes and I can spend all my time with her. Attempting to keep my laundry from piling to the ceiling, and spending time with friends and my husband when I had the energy to do so.

But what does all of this pain I am in lead me to? Fear. Simple as that.

Fear - an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat - tied directly to pessimistic - tending to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen (ME 1,000 times over right now - explanation below.)

I am SCARED.

So scared to the point at some point, baby girl is going to stop breathing and I am going to have to be in an emergency delivery situation at any time.

Is this rational? Nope, not even a little.

Can I control it? Nope, hormones are making my brain do insane things.

I spend so much of my time trying to keep from being paralyzed by the fear and anxiety. Please try to remember that I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and cannot take the medication for it due to pregnancy. This damn disorder can completely overrun my life (it has in the past and has been quite traumatic) and I do my best to keep from going back to that scary anxious place. I am working on using the calming techniques I have had success with in the past to help calm me down. However, they are not fool-proof.

I worry that with all of these pains and symptoms, my sweet miracle baby will lose her hold inside of me and I will miscarry. Which would be beyond devastation for me and Aaron.

In the movie, Sex and the City, Charlotte (an infertile like me) talked about having everything she ever wanted now that she was pregnant and it scaring her to death. She even had better odds at getting pregnant than I did - she was told 5%, my chances were 0%.

That is me.

I live in a perpetual state of fear that this miracle, this dream, this amazing step in my life will disappear without a warning.

I have not handled it all well - I have allowed my fear to turn into frustration/anger and people have not understood that I am afraid. Add to the fear, the loneliness I have felt with Aaron and I working opposite schedules for the past 3 months just to make ends meet and I have reached out through social media to have someone allow me to vent my fear or pain to get it out of my head or simply just have someone tell me it is going to be all right. The response has generally been that I should solely focus on the positives of the pregnancy - and try as I might with the pain and the fear, I have overwhelmingly failed at this.

I do not like failure and I do not fail at things in my life very well. Failures make me angry and are a driving force to my level of determination that pushes me forward. Somedays it takes every ounce of my strength and energy just to survive the day through the pain and exhaustion - even though I may not survive the day very well. Somedays by the time I get home from school, I am completely and beyond all belief exhausted in a way I have never experienced and am still adjusting to daily - there have been more days than not that I am in bed before 8 pm, deep in thought about all the changes in my life that have happened or that will happen.

So to be told that I am not grateful for this baby when really I am simply trying to understand what is going on in my body and that a huge portion of my fears are completely normal (without being judged for feeling it) to help calm the fear and anxiety, is beyond hurtful.

Have I reacted well? No. But, I am going to work even harder to do better.

Does that mean I am not grateful for my miracle baby? No.

The absolute opposite is true - she is one of the most amazing blessings of my life. She and Aaron are the most magical aspects of my life (please remember this does not in anyway downplay the other wonderful aspects of my life). I wished for someone to love me without condition for exactly as I am, flawed and outspoken as I am and my life changed forever when I met Aaron in 2007. My life changed again when I received the call from the RE's office that we were finally pregnant after the most insane ordeal of infertility to find out that baby girl was coming.

I cannot wait to meet my sweet baby, to hold her, and to know she is a part of my heart living outside my body. I cannot wait to see her grow and so excited to see the person she will grow into in her life. This is my joy and the part that keeps me from going completely off the deep end on the days the fear and anxiety take almost complete control of me. Knowing Aaron and I get to be there for her life, is the best thought of the day everyday.

I know we are lucky to finally have her after our struggle, I do not take this for granted - I am just a person who has had the rug pulled out from under her too often in life and had to take the hard road to get what I have wanted.

I cannot wait for the journey ahead of us - I simply wish it had less pain to get there so I could enjoy the new adventures that pregnancy brings.

Does that make me a bad person?

Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? Pretty sure that I have some new ones as my stomach grows
Sleep: sleeping = about getting up every hour or so for some reason or another and about 1/2 hour or so to fall back asleep - in addition, I keep attempting to sleep on my stomach in the middle of the night which then wakes me up because it aches
Best moment of the week: Watching my stomach move from the outside as baby girl moved all around
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: she likes to move around the most at night, during the day she has very little activity and appears to be sleeping during that time
Anything making you queasy or sick: Random queasy feeling that comes and goes - kind of reminds me of the first trimester
Gender prediction: definitely a girl
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: ugh - where to begin??? Hip pain, sciatic nerve pain, stuffed up head, small bladder, sleeplessness, pain in my wrists and ankles
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? they are on a chain around my neck now, they only fit to my knuckle. I found a decent (although not real) replacement to wear so I don't have a bare hand which is very strange after wearing a ring for so long

23 weeks and 5 days

Here we are at 23 weeks.

Baby girl has been moving around like a monster lately, she likes to sit on my hips and push out, which causes walking to be tough from time to time. She tends to sit on my sciatic nerve where my leg will go numb without much notice. It's pretty intense kind of pain. I have an appointment to see a chiropractor, looking for some relief - I am hopeful that will be the case

22 weeks and 3 days

22 weeks and time is flying by!

We are more calm and thoughtful about the whole money thing. I know everyone goes through this freaking out phase where we are not sure how to deal with it all, but Aaron and I are a great team! We will get through it and get it all figured out I am sure.

The weekly update:

How far along? 22 weeks and 3 days
Total weight gain: Feel like I have gained more weight in the past week than I had up to this point in the pregnancy - I had to go up in the size of my underwear from the larger size I had previously been wearing (I know, lots of TMI here but oh well)
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: sleeping = about getting up every hour or so for some reason or another and about 1/2 hour or so to fall back asleep
Best moment of the week: Watching Aaron's excitement when he felt baby girl kicking and moving around for the first time on Sunday
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: she likes to move around the most at night, during the day she has very little activity and appears to be sleeping during that time
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: definitely a girl
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: strong smells is the killer one for me right now, I do have sciatic nerve pain, hot/cold flashes throughout the day, uncomfortable sleep, pregnancy head congestion which has lead to some bloody noses, and hungry for sweet things constantly
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? they are on a chain around my neck now, they only fit to my knuckle. I found a decent (although not real) replacement to wear so I don't have a bare hand which is very strange after wearing a ring for so long

21 weeks and 4 days - parental anxiety meltdown???

Well here we are in week 21 and the reality is starting to catch up with us.

We are beginning to realize the ultimate issues that we will be facing from the financial standpoint once baby girl is born in a few short months. Reality is a nasty beast and I am not a fan of her. We have some tough choices ahead to make things work and I know we will get there eventually, but this week has been the weight of the world crashing down on us.

Apparently this is a common thing for first time parents to have a financial freak out when the reality of "how are you going to afford all this?" sets in. Aaron and I are fortunate to be a good team and we will work through it all, one step at a time.

And now the weekly update:

How far along? 21 weeks and 4 days
Total weight gain: Gained 3 pounds, which means I am on the other side of the weight loss my doctor was not super thrilled about in the first trimester
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: this is a magical thing that is rather elusive from time to time - I think I slept more in the first trimester than I have been right now!
Best moment of the week: Being able to take a picture that made me look pregnant as opposed to just looking like I had gained some weight
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: the moving is getting more and more noticeable everyday
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: definitely a girl
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: strong smells is the killer one for me right now, I do have sciatic nerve pain, hot/cold flashes throughout the day, uncomfortable sleep, pregnancy head congestion which has lead to some bloody noses, and hungry for sweet things constantly
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? they are on a chain around my neck now, they only fit to my knuckle. It makes me sad and I need to find some kind of replacement
Happy or moody most of the time? lately is a flip-flop between happy and sad.
Looking forward to: Aaron being able to feel baby girl from just putting his hand on my belly, it will be nice for him to be more of a part of this pregnancy!

20 Weeks and 4 days

We have officially hit the 20 week mark, which means from this point forward I have less left of my pregnancy than I do ahead of me! Amazing concept! I have to admit that after everything we went through, it seemed like we were never going to get to our dream and now here we are!

Weekly update:

How far along? 20 weeks and 4 days
Total weight gain: I am pretty sure at my doctor appointment on Monday is going to show that I have gained weight, my appetite has returned in force (thankfully!)
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: this is a magical thing that is rather elusive from time to time
Best moment of the week: the ultrasound on Monday was the best! She is so big now compared to when we saw her 5 weeks ago. We had tons of pictures although she was a stubborn butt and was upside down so we didn't get the best set of pictures so we have to go back in a few weeks for more.
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: the moving is getting more and more noticeable - still not something you can feel from the outside yet, but I think we are getting closer to that point
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: we saw the ultrasound on Monday and she is definitely a girl! It was very clear from the pictures that she is a girl

Nearly 1/2 way there!! :-) Can't believe we are here!

How far along? 19 weeks and 4 days

Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: I use the pregnancy pillow however, I have hot/cold flashes in the middle of the night that wake me up and then I have a hard time going back to sleep
Best moment of the week: 2 unexpected snow days this week! We just had a long weekend but another one is a wonderful thing for me to be able to catch up on some rest
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: Still intermittent movement - every now and then I think I feel her moving around, it's getting to be more and more frequent. I can't wait until Aaron can feel her moving!
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: We are going with girl until we are told otherwise, 20 week ultrasound is scheduled for Monday so we shall see if we are still team PINK or not!
In
Wedding rings on or off? they were on until today, I took them off to put on lotion and couldn't get them back on again - I am pretty sure they are off until further notice. My hand feels very bare
Happy or moody most of the time? lately is a flip-flop between happy and sad.
Looking forward to: the ultrasound on Monday - can't wait to see how much baby girl has grown since our last ultrasound that was nearly 5 weeks ago! I am going shopping with my MIL this weekend as well to see some of the cute baby things that are starting to be put out for spring and summer!

18 weeks and 3 days

Here we are at 18 weeks and 3 days! It's amazing to get to this point.

This week has been an okay one compared to last week, I barely had to time to blink last week with the amount of work and things I had to get done, parent/teacher conferences, etc. It was a week that went quickly but was so busy by the end of the week, I just wanted to crash out.

I had to do the 3 hour glucose tolerance test on Saturday. YUCK!!! I had taken the 1 hour test in January and failed it so the OBGYN wanted me to do the 3 hour test to make sure I hadn't developed gestational diabetes. This is not a fun test at all. You have to fast beforehand, then take a blood draw, drink the nasty overly-sugary drink (seriously, this stuff is toxic!), then sit for an hour, blood draw, sit for another hour, blood draw, sit for another hour, blood draw, and then you are finally done. By the time I was done, I was STARVING!!! Thankfully, the test came back normal. Unfortunately, I will still have to do the test again at about 28 weeks to monitor for gestational diabetes. Stupid insulin resistance that it making me do this gross test.

We have the 20 week appointment set up for the anatomy scan and to check her gender (we still think she's a she, but we will see for sure!). We are very excited about this, not just for checking her gender, but to see her development to make sure she is growing well.

Onto the weekly update:

How far along? 18 weeks and 3 days
Total weight gain: Working on eating often to help with this since I am still down 11.5 pounds since becoming pregnant
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: I bought a pregnancy sleeping pillow which seems to be helping some with the sleeping issues, a few more hours of sleep makes a huge difference for me
Best moment of the week: Spending the day with Aaron on Saturday for our Valentine's Day celebration - we went shopping for baby girl, had a nice lunch, and just spent the day together.
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: Still intermittent movement - every now and then I think I feel her moving around
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: We are going with girl until we are told otherwise
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: strong smells is the killer one for me right now
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? the rings are on, most of my bloat is gone
Happy or moody most of the time? lately is a flip-flop between happy and sad.
Looking forward to: my mini-vacation to Chicago this weekend to visit family, it's been a stressful few weeks and having a small break will be amazing.

16 weeks 3 days - somewhat annoyed

16 weeks and counting....

As I get further into my pregnancy, I am amazed at how many people have an opinion about how I "should" feel or what I "should" do or "should" think.

I know there are some people who do not want to hear my complaining when I am having a bad day or feeling like crap because they think I should be cartwheeling or backflipping due to finally being pregnant. Now, I understand to a degree where they are coming from because we are THRILLED at all of this - to the point words fail me to explain.

HOWEVER:

I am still a first time mom who has NEVER experienced this before, it's all brand new and scary to me. I don't know what's going on in my body from day to day (sometimes minute to minute feels so unknown), it feels different and I am in an adjustment phase for all this - so somedays I am just completely overwhelmed both positively and negatively. I am pregnant, which means I can be the following in any order and all at once: sad, scared, mad, confused, frustrated, happy, nervous, excited, anxious, sentimental, overwhelmed, etc.

This is a whole new ballgame for me - I don't think there is a particular way I should feel because so much is so unknown to me. I have read the books, talked to people who have gone through it before to make sure I am not way out of bounds.

We can't wait to be parents, it's what we have been working toward for such a long time, but that doesn't mean that makes me into a person who isn't scared to death and gets overwhelmed from time to time. We are so excited about it all because we have been to hell and back to get to this point, spent a small fortune, and had our relationship tested time and again with the stress. We are still going strong (I would say stronger, to be honest) but that does not change us from being first time parents who are adjusting to the changes we are experiencing right now, let alone all the changes to come.

No one tells other pregnant women that they should just get over it when they are having a bad/sad/overwhelemed day, so why am I any different???

Okay, I am climbing down off my soap box now.

How far along? 16 weeks and 3 days
Total weight gain: I have been working hard at spreading out my eating throughout the day to help me get more nutrition, so hopefully at my appointment next week, I will have at least maintained if not have gained a little bit of weight
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: I bought a pregnancy sleeping pillow which seems to be helping some with the sleeping issues, a few more hours of sleep makes a huge difference for me
Best moment of the week: Buying some adorable new clothes for baby girl - we are blessed to get lots of hand-me-downs, but some new clothes for the new baby is a necessity for us :-) A little bit of spoiling never hurt anyone
Miss anything? Not really
Movement: No, but it should be coming pretty quickly - the next few weeks
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: We are going with girl until we are told otherwise
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: strong smells is the killer one for me right now
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? the rings are on, most of my bloat is gone
Happy or moody most of the time? lately is a flip-flop between happy and sad. Last night, I started crying for no reason whatsoever when getting ready for bed! Caught me off guard and I cried for over 15 minutes straight - still not sure what that was all about!
Looking forward to: the next ultrasound which should be somewhere between 18-22 weeks to do a more in depth anatomy scan for development as well as hopefully confirm for me that she's doing all right in there and growing strong!

15 Weeks and 3 Days - the baby is a....

It's a girl!!!

We had our elective gender ultrasound on Saturday and it was so cool! :-) She has gotten so much bigger since the last ultrasound we had seen at 8 weeks 5 days! It took a little persuading to get her to move around enough for us to see the gender, she was lying on her back which made it nearly impossible. Luckily, we had the most patient ultrasound tech who kept me moving around to help to get a different angle until we were able to get a good view.

So here she is:

Aaron and I had chosen names over the summer when we were going through the 2 rounds of IVF because it was a positive thing for us to do when we were hitting a frustration point. So as soon as we found it was a girl, we knew what her name would be. Genevieve is for my great-grandmother on my mom's side and Ann is for my grandmother and mother. It's a way to honor all of the women in my history. Plus, it's just a beautiful name in general and not one that we hear that often. We wanted a name with meaning for us and was something that not everyone would have in her classroom as well.

Now for the weekly update:

How far along? 15 weeks and 3 days
Total weight gain: Well I thought I was done losing weight, but apparently I was wrong. I am down another almost 4 pounds brining our total to -13 pounds since finding out we were pregnant. Time to stop losing and start gaining a little
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: well this week has not been a great sleeping one, my body is waking me up at about 3:30 am and then I can't fall back asleep - making my days seem so much longer than necessary
Best moment of the week: Seeing the baby on the ultrasound to see how much she has grown since the last ultrasound and to see Aaron's face as he saw how much bigger she was
Miss anything? Well food is better, but I need to start eating more because of the weight loss - not as easy as it sounds though when I am getting full faster and faster
Movement: Nope
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: According to the ultrasound, she's a girl - it was a pretty obvious there was nothing else there so until we are told otherwise, she's a girl!
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: strong smells, gas (so much!! I am a human gas factory right now), leg cramps are starting and woke me up last night, some headaches
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? the rings are on, most of my bloat is gone
Happy or moody most of the time? generally happy but the hormones are increasing - I have noticed that my frustration level gets hit quicker than it did before and I have to make myself calm down before losing my cool all the time
Looking forward to: the next ultrasound which should be somewhere between 18-22 weeks to do a more in depth anatomy scan for development as well as hopefully confirm for me that she's doing all right in there and growing strong!

14 weeks and 3 days

Well here we are again...another weekly update.

Last week, I woke up in terrible pain down the back of my right leg. I went to work and the pain just became worse, finally at about 2:15 am I woke up Aaron and said we had to do something because it woke me up out of sleep. So he got up (even though he had just gone to bed not too long before) and we were at the ER by about 5 am. However, because I am pregnant, they wanted to check for a blood clot first since pregnant women can have those and the symptoms mimic what I was feeling. The downside was the ultrasound tech did not come in until 7 am and they wouldn't do anything until that was cleared and my blood work was back. So back to sleep we went in the ER while waiting. Finally, it was time for the ultrasound (all the way up from the top of my thigh to the ankle by the way - ouch!) and it came back clear. The ER doctor said he felt as though I had developed tendinitis of my Achilles tendon somehow and that was the source of the pain. The nurse wrapped it (which super duper hurt and I cried a ton as she did it) and we were given directions to rest it, ice it, elevate it, and keep the wrap on for at least 48 hours. By the time we were home, it was nearly 9 am and poor Aaron had barely any sleep but was going to have to go to work soon. I felt awful for the whole thing, he's a good husband: made sure I had my ice pack, my laptop, all the remotes for the TV/DVR/DVD player, wrapped in a blanket, and some snacks near me so he could get some sleep without me having to get up very much. This week at school, I have been wearing my boot which allows me to not put all my weight on my ankle while walking and I have a follow up appointment on Monday. Ugh. Very frustrating situation.

In other news, we found out that our ultrasound place will only allow 2 people in the room with the tech so that threw a wrench in the whole plan for having my mother-in-law in the room when we found out the gender. Thankfully, a solution is there is another place that will do an elective ultrasound where you can have tons of people in there with you AND they will do the gender scan even earlier! So we now have an appointment for this Saturday and she gets to come with us! I hope the baby is cooperative and we can find out. I want to know if it's a boy or girl and why not do it earlier when it is not that expensive ($60 for the scan) and then we can go back later to do a 3D/4D ultrasound if we would like. That's pretty awesome.

Next week, we will have the gender update!

How far along? 14 weeks and 3 days
Total weight gain: I am not losing anymore, which is really all I can say to the positive at this point.
Maternity clothes? that's what I am fitting into right now, all maternity pants
Stretch marks? No new ones
Sleep: getting a little bit more sleep now than I have been before
Best moment of the week: finding out we can do the gender scan earlier!
Miss anything? Well food is starting sound better finally, so I am experimenting at things that bothered me in my first trimester to see if they are okay now
Movement: Nope
Anything making you queasy or sick: No more queasy!! Thank goodness
Gender prediction: Not really sure but the FB poll has it at 20 voting for girl and 5 voting for boy
Labor signs: Nope
Symptoms: strong smells, gas (so much!! I am a human gas factory right now), leg cramps are starting and woke me up last night, some headaches
Belly button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? the rings are on, most of my bloat is gone
Happy or moody most of the time? generally happy but the hormones are increasing - I have noticed that my frustration level gets hit quicker than it did before and I have to make myself calm down before losing my cool all the time
Looking forward to: a hopefully cooperative baby on Saturday so we know if baby G is a boy or a girl

13 Weeks 4 days

So this week has brought about some new adventures:

1. The nausea has passed!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't be happier about that because it means that I don't spend the whole day running to throw up all the time. I feel like I could shout from the rooftop that I don't want to throw up anymore.

2. The downside is that I have to eat more, but my stomach doesn't seem to like any food I like. I am trying to eat all the things I have enjoyed before and that makes eating a bit more of a challenge. My doctor now wants me to start gaining weight (I was down almost 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight through the first trimester) slowly and increasing my nutrition now that I can keep down food.

3. We bought at home Doppler to listen to the baby's heartbeat at home between doctor appointments. While it's a little tricky in the beginning, it's amazing to be able to listen to the heartbeat whenever we want, it allows me to feel much less stressed because I know the baby's heart is beating strong.

Weekly update:

12 weeks and 4 days

I hope everyone had a fantastic New Year's celebration, no matter what you did.

We had a good time with a group of friends. Last year, we went on a party shuttle with a group of friends and it was fantastic. So, we decided to do it again this year. Although it was a bit more interesting being 3 months pregnant and still dealing with morning sickness, plus a terrible head cold. We made sure that we had a back up plan in case I wasn't feeling very well and needed to leave, but fortunately did not need to use it.

Here we are in the 13th week, heading into the second trimester and thankfully getting a bit of relief from the terrible morning sickness. I have to say that whomever named this awful part of pregnancy as morning sickness obviously never had it because it was all day and all night. It didn't matter what I ate, when I ate it, or how much I ate - all of it made me sick. A good day was only coming to the edge or throwing up 4 times, some days were up to 10 or 11 times a day. It is very difficult to function as a human being when all you feel like doing is keeping your head in the toilet and lying in bed with a blanket over your head. I am so glad that it's tapering off finally, now it's maybe once a day every other day or so. I couldn't be more thrilled with this new development.

I have a doctor appointment on Monday to hear the heartbeat and to get the plan for the upcoming doctor appointments. I have ordered a handheld Doppler which should hopefully be here soon so we can hear the heartbeat at home whenever we want. Talk about a relief that will be when it gets here.

Happy New Year everyone

Well, it's the last day if 2012 and I am ready to move into 2013 in a major way!!

Our 2012 was rough.

Aaron left his job in February, which took us down to being a one income family for most of the year. It was a tough decision to make but he was very unhappy in the job, it was starting to greatly affect our relationship. We talked long and hard about our options, we decided he needs to do what he enjoys so he started back to school to get his degree in computer programming. He started temp work a few weeks age at a company in the next town and it is going very well. They are planning to hire him full-time and still be flexible with his class schedule so he can finish his degree.

We lost my mother in June, which was a tremendous blow to me and my life. I miss her everyday and it's not something I will easily forget. Our relationship was not perfect, it was often up and down, but in the end she was my mom. I have so many questions about being a mom that I would love to ask her now. I am very sad she she won't be around to see her grandchild grow up in person, but I know she is the guardian angel for the baby.

We did 2 rounds of IVF this summer, it was difficult and painful. We had success with the second round and became pregnant but it lead to miscarriage quickly. We were heartbroken and took some time to recover before moving on to a frozen transfer. It was discouraging and sad, but we pulled together, I am pretty sure it made us stronger as a couple overall.

We then lost Aaron's grandmother, Augusta in September right before Aaron's 33rd birthday. It shook his entire family to the core. She was a strong woman who was the head of the family in so many ways. She loved her children and grandchildren so much, they were the light of her life. Everyone will miss her greatly but now we have another guardian angel.

We did the frozen transfer in October and found out in November, we were finally pregnant!!! To say we were excited was an understatement. We worked so hard and went through so much to get to this point. It was nerve-wrecking to wait for all the tests and ultrasounds to see the baby was doing okay. We reached 12 weeks yesterday and that's an amazing accomplishment for us. Now we are in the second trimester and we have so much to look forward to as we move closer to meeting our baby in July.

Now bring on 2013 and the new adventures it will bring for us!

Merry Christmas! I hope that everyone had a great holiday. We went with Aaron's family for the holiday and it was amazing. It's so hard to believe that next year, we will have a new little baby that will be spoiled rotten by the families! We have been released!

The appointment yesterday went amazing!

We had our ultrasound which was awesome - baby GW has grown and grown! Heartbeat of 167 beats per minute, arm and leg buds growing, and we even saw the baby wiggle around! This was brand new for Aaron because he couldn't be at the last appointment. It will not get old though, hearing that little heart beating away like it was.

The best news is that our RE has released us! We no longer have to go there for appointments. We are sad about this some though because we love our RE and we would not be where we are without them. I am going to miss them terribly because they have been remarkably supportive and answered all our questions without fail. We had to promise we will bring the baby by to see them.

Now to get set up with my regular OB again - I haven't seen her in over 2 years because we have been with the RE. I am going to call on Monday and hopefully get it all set up.
